A General Service Unit (GSU) officer attached to the elite Recce Squad was killed by a machete wielding gang while his two brothers were injured badly in Mazembe area, Nakuru County.
The trio were ambushed yesterday at night in a dark alley while walking home after a family meeting from Nakuru City center.
While acting in self-defense, the deceased, Harrison Onywonki and his brothers; Hezron Onwonga and Morara; Onwonga fought off the gang armed with rungus, machete and other crude weapons.
Preliminary police findings show the gang comprised about five people.
The assailants who are still at large made away with cellphones.
They were rushed to the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital (PGH) by police officers on patrol, but Onywonki succumbed from his injuries while receiving treatment.
“The other two brothers were treated and discharged in fair condition.” A police source said.
