Safaricom offer 50 per cent waiver on coding subscription licenses by Kodris Africa

Learners in both primary and secondary school can now access coding licenses affordably after Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Ndegwa announced a 50 per cent discount on coding subscription licenses by education technologies firm Kodris Africa.

Ndegwa made the pronouncement of the two-months discount during the launch of M-Pesa Go, a new financial product for teens and preteens aged 10 to 17 years.

“For 60 days, starting November 26, 2022, parent’s looking to get their children started on the coding journey can purchase an annual Kodris Africa subscription via the M-PESA App and enjoy 50 per cent off.” Ndegwa said.

One of the Mini-Apps available on the M-PESA Super App is Kodris Africa.

Kodris Africa is the provider of Kenya’s first-ever government-approved program for teaching coding.

“As M-Pesa we are committed to empowering and transforming the lives of everyone, and in M-Pesa Go, we are providing a revolutionary product designed for youngsters, but with oversight by parents or guardians. Leveraging the M-Pesa Super App, we plan to introduce a financial literacy platform that will equip children with tools for managing money.” Ndegwa said.

The simple and user friendly APP has parental control over what the juniors do on M-Pesa as well as managing financial risks by fostering responsible behavior among the users.

The product also gives the juniors digital financial literacy early on.

Data shows that over 84 per cent of those aged 10-17 years in Kenya have access to phones with lines registered under their parents and guardians’ details.

Cumulatively, there are 3 million registered juniors M-Pesa using their parents’ details.

The M-Pesa Super App is also the gateway through which parents and guardians can guide their children’s financial journey, as it contains monitoring and tracking features, and parental control features such as setting transaction limits.

This meant customers can purchase tokens that will provide a year’s worth of coding lessons through the M-Pesa platform and then activate them on a tablet, laptop, or desktop computer for their children to start learning how to programme computers.
