The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has declared Chege Njuguna and William Kisang as party’s candidates for the Kandara constituency Elgeyo Marakwet Senator by elections respectively.
Njuguna emerged the winner during yesterday’s highly contested party primaries garnering 7,826 votes.
Njuguna floored Stephen Mwaura who garnered 4,414 of the votes followed by James Kamau and Evelyn Waithira with 2,191 and 1,267 respectively.
On the other hand, Kisang, the former Marakwet West Member of Parliament (MP) garnered 28,136 votes.
In the hotly contested race, Kisang floored 20 other aspirants to be declared winner by UDA county returning officer Nicodemus Bore after he garnered 28,136 votes.
Timothy Kipchumba and Jonathan Tanui tied at the second position after they l each got 26,766 votes.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has slated January 5, 2023 as the by elections date.
Kisang will contest for the Senatorial position that fell vacant after Kipchumba Murkomen was appointed Roads, Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary by President William Ruto.
Murkomen has since congratulated Kisang for emerging winner after vigorous, intense and lively campaigns.
“Congratulations Hon. William Kisang on your nomination as the UDA flag bearer for the upcoming Senatorial by-elections in Elgeyo Marakwet County. Congratulations also to all the other candidates who put up a spirited fight and performed exemplarily,” he wrote in a tweet.
“Let’s now move forward together as one indivisible family knowing that competition makes us strong together as it prepares us for service in our various capacities and different duty stations,” the CS added.
Njuguna seeks to fill the position that was left vacant after Alice Wahome was appointed as Cabinet Secretary for Water and Sanitation.
