Kenya Airways is set to begin operating non-stop flights from Mombasa to Dubai from December 15, 2022.
Through a statement, KQ Chief Commercial and Customer Officer Julius Thairu said that the coastal region will start a Boeing 737-800, four times a week.
Currently, KQ flies to Dubai directly from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.
The national carrier stated that the introduction of this route was in response to demand from the market and is expected to boost the Kenyan coastal region tourism industry through direct access to and from the Middle East.
“The Dubai-Mombasa route will give tourists from the middle East, Russia, Northern Europe and Australia direct access to the wonders of coast region tourism and hospital industry,” Thairu said.
“This launch is part of Kenya Airways network expansion strategy and commitment towards supporting the recovery of the tourism and hospitality industry in Kenya,” he added.
The Mombasa- Dubai route is further expected to attract travellers to the Middle East for holiday or religious trips.
The flight will offer a belly cargo that will facilitate traders of clothes, electronics and other consumer goods.
“The region’s traders of electronics, clothes and other consumer goods will also benefit from the belly cargo capacity that will be available on the flight,” the statement read.
Additionally, the flights will offer increased capacity for direct exports of seafood and fresh produce directly to the Middle East.
KQ said that the flight will depart from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and make a stop in Mombasa’s Moi International Airport to pick up additional passengers.
The four flights will increase KQ frequencies to Dubai from the current 10 to 14 times per week.
