Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Gender and Youth Affairs Aisha Jumwa has said that she will push for public servants to be well compensated in terms of salaries and allowances so as to boost ethics as well as stem out corruption amongst them.
Speaking after inspecting services at the largest Huduma center in Nairobi county, the CS noted that her office will initiate the conversation around salary increments for public servants in the next 100 days in office.
“What is being given to public servants is sad and we have to relook into the issue with great concern to make sure the moral is revamped and when they are earning good definitely the issue of corruption will be a thing of the past,” Jumwa said.
Jumwa also said that the ministry plans to increase the number of Huduma centers in the country from 52 to 100 in the next five years to meet the ever increasing demand for social service.
As part of her plans to improve service delivery to the mwananchi, the cabinet secretary highlighted that they plan to extend working hours from 7 am to 7 pm in 18 selected Huduma centers to enhance convenience.
“In line with this, the ministry has commenced extended working hours on shift basis for the government owned Huduma contact center to operate from 7am-7pm to support customers,” she added.
The ministry will embark on modelling sub county Huduma centers in partnership with the national government constituency development fund in preparation to set up centers across various sub counties.
On her part, principal secretary state department of Public Service, Mary Kimonye called on the country to collect their national identification cards and birth certificates which are creating a backlog at the centers.
“Right here we have a back log of 33,000 uncollected identification cards and also 2,000 birth certificates uncollected. Our staff send messages but no one comes to collect. It is a big challenge for us,” Kimonye said.
