Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni said that the government was implementing an overnight curfew, closure of places of worship and entertainment, and prohibiting movement into and out of two districts affected by Ebola for 21 days.
The measures aimed to curb the spread will take effective immediately in Mubende and Kassanda in central Uganda which is the epicenter of the epidemic.
“These are temporary measures to control the spread of Ebola. We should all co-operate with authorities so we bring this outbreak to an end in the shortest possible time,” Museveni said in a televised national address.
“If you are in Mubende and Kassanda districts, stay there for 21 days,” he added.
Museveni said that 19 people had died since the East African nation announced the outbreak of the deadly hemorrhagic fever on September 20.
Cargo trucks will still be allowed to enter and leave the two areas but other transport either personal or otherwise was supended.
Museveni had ordered traditional healers to cease treating people in a bid to halt the spread of the virus and ordered the arrest of anyone suspected of having contracted the virus and refused to go into isolation.
