The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has indicted government’s ill-preparedness to deal with the deadly Ebola outbreak should such cases be reported in the county.
KMPDU National Executive Council has rubbished claims by the Ministry of Health that the country has put in place adequate measures to forestall a calamity should the disease be reported in the country.
Speaking during a press conference in Nairobi earlier today, the union cited the example of the suspected Ebola case reported in Busia yesterday, saying the delay in releasing the test results shows lack of preparedness.
It said there is need for a better testing mechanism, whil calling for employment of more healthcare workers.
The union officials also called for the equipping of hospitals with PPEs and training for healthcare workers.
They also said there is need to more awareness among members of the public.
They also said counties on the border must step up efforts.
“It is better to over prepare than to be caught by surprise,” the officials said.
Kenya has no confirmed cases of Ebola.
In neighbouring Uganda, the first doctor, a Tanzanian national and second health worker died of Ebola.
