Police at Ruiru Police Station are holding four women and a man suspected to part of an organized criminal syndicate behind numerous cases of stupefying revelers drinks at entertainment joint before robbing them.
Esther Njoki Gikonyo, Annis Muthoni Ndirangu, Esther Wangare Wambui, Lucy Njeri Mwangi and Peter Nderitu Wangare were tarced to their hideout in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
Forensic investigations by detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) linked the five to an incident where they drugged a man in a bar before stealing his phone and Sh50,000 which they transferred from his Co-operative Bank account after accessing his bank records.
“They are in custody awaiting to be arraigned on matter to face numerous counts of stupefying and robbery charges.” A senior officer told The Informer.
The five have been on the run since early last month when they committed the crime.
It is believed that the suspects drugged Benjamin Muriithi Nyaga during a drinking spree, before accessing his bank account at Cooperative Bank where they withdrew the cash.
During the sting operation, the officers managed to recover nine mobile phones which are now in police custody as exhibits.
