President William Ruto has today detailed the policies and major priorities rooted in the bottom-up economic model.
Addressing the Bicameral House, Ruto proposed the renaming of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to Kenya Revenue Service.
This, according to him, will be part of a culture change to make the authority people friendly.
“We want to make it a people-friendly, customer-centric organization. I am of the view that we rename it The Kenya Revenue Service. In line with the proposed transformation,” Ruto said.
Additionally, he said his team will propose new tax measures that will start moving the country in the right direction.
The proposal to change the name of KRA was first presented by outgoing Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ukur Yatani.
“In order to align the operations of the Authority to this emerging trend, I propose to amend the Kenya Revenue Authority Act to change the name of the Authority from ‘Kenya Revenue Authority’ to ‘Kenya Revenue Service’,” Yatani said.
He further indicated that in the run-up to the recently held elections, Kenya became the first nation in the world where a Deputy President in office replaced the opposition.
“This only happens in Kenya, the sitting deputy president became the candidate of the opposition and the leader of the opposition became the candidate of government and as things would be, the opposition candidate won the election and became president and the president became the leader of the opposition party,” Ruto said.
