President William Ruto has announced the resignation of Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti.
Speaking during a press briefing, the President authorised the National Police Service (NPS) to declare and advertise a vacancy.
“This afternoon I have received the resignation of DCI director George Kinoti. I have transmitted the same to the National Police Service to proceed with advertising that position,” Ruto said.
Since 2018, Kinoti has led the criminal investigation agency.
Kinoti was about to retire after Ruto accused him of being used to weaponise the war on corruption.
He also noted the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai had gone on terminal leave.
Mutyambai had six months to retired.
“I accepted Mutyambai’s terminal departure after discussing it with him,” Ruto remarked.
Ruto also stated that he had received the resignation of CID Kinoti’s director general.
“I have forwarded the same to the National Police Service so that they can proceed with advertising that vacancy,” Ruto added.
