The corruption case involving former Kiambu County governor Ferdinand Waititu is set to resume on October 14 next month.
Waititu is accused of irregularly awarding Sh588 million to road tender.
The hearing was adjourned by Thomas Nzyoki, Milimani Anti-Corruption Chief Magistrate after the court was notified of the bereavement of Waititu’s lawyer John Swaka.
A letter dated September 14, was received by the prosecution from lawyer Swaka informing the court concerning the loss of his father.
The lawyer sought to have all the previous hearing dates be taken into consideration and re adjusted in regards to his tragedy.
The defendant lawyer’s request was granted by the Chief magistrate and he made an order rescheduling the case to proceed with one witness on October 14 before other hearing dates are later fixed.
In the last hearing, forensic detective Alex Kinyanjui from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) produced incriminating evidence that showed how sh221 million had been paid under questionable circumstances to a roads contractor by Kiambu County.
“After much detailed verification from the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS), some of the invoices had approval information while some did not,” the detective testified.
Waititu’s wife, Susan Wangari, Testimony Enterprises Limited are some of the parties also implicated in this graft case involving the irregular awarding of over Sh588 million roads tender in Kiambu county.
