COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has swallowed a bitter oil and accepted that indeed President-elect was smarter than Azimio la Umoja one coalition led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Atwoli who heavily campaigned against President-Elect William Ruto has reversed back his sentiments and asked Azimio supporters to embrace the new leader who is set to get sworn in next week as the new commander in chief.
“When I was going around saying get used to your president, I didn’t know that I actually meant Ruto,” he said Friday, “I have accepted the humiliating defeat we suffered as Azimio.”
The outspoken Atwoli urged Azimio supporters to embrace the new leader “because that was the will of God.”
According to Atwoli, the will of God is to have Ruto as the next President for the next five years before the Kenyan electorate heads to the elections again.
“As human beings we plan, but it is God who always knows what is ahead a and you can’t argue with God. Our President is Ruto,” he said.
Atwoli would go further in admitting that Ruto was a smart politician and that is why he outsmarted the Azimio bandwagon led by Raila Odinga.
“Give it to Ruto because we slept knowing we have won, only to be surprised by the results,” he said.
Atwoli however, said he is happy because the Luhya community is represented in the Kenya Kwanza government.
He was referring to Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula who resigned as Bungoma Senator on Thursday before he was elected National Assembly Speaker.
Wetangula was elected as the next speaker in the National Assembly taking over from Justin Muturi who is expected to be appointed to Ruto’s cabinet come next week.
