Nairobi Traffic Commandant Vitalis Otieno announce temporary closure of Ngong Road First Avenue through Milimani to Kenyatta Avenue tomorrow during Supreme Court verdict.
According to Otieno the roads will be closed upon directive by the Supreme Court which will be two hours before the time given by the court.
The directive is expected to be issued 2 hours before the time that the Court will convene to give its ruling on the presidential petition.
Otieno has singled out the specifics roads that shall be closed during the proceedings
They include;
- Ngong road will be closed at the junction of Ngong Road 10 Avenue (opposite NHIF). No motorists will be allowed to access CBD through Kenyatta Avenue via Cathedral Road but instead are advised to be Haile Selassie Avenue.
- Cathedral Road/Milimani Ngong Road which accesses Milimani Law Courts will be closed at Kenyatta Avenue/ Valley road Junction (NSSF). Only vehicles heading to the court will be allowed. All other motorists are advised to use Valley Road.
- Cathedral road/Haile Selassie Avenue junction will be closed and Motorists are advised to use alternative route of Haile Selassie/Ngong Road.
This comes after National Police Service (NPS) urged the public to avoid gathering at the Supreme Court buildings during the ruling or congregating in public gatherings.
Police Headquarters has already ordered security to be intensified in hotspots ahead of Monday’s ruling.
On Thursday, Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua directed all County Commanders to increase deployments in specific areas where protests or celebrations are likely to occur once the verdict is issued.
“The supreme Court of Kenya will make a ruling on the presidential petition on Monday depending on the ruling of the court we expect various reactions from the members of the public in hot spot areas such as violence and destruction of property, demonstrations, and celebrations,” Mbugua said in the directive.
The supreme court is expected to either uphold or nullify Deputy President William Ruto’s win in the just concluded general elections.
