President elect William Ruto today led Kenya Kwanza affiliated politicians in a thanksgiving prayer service at Lamurdiac High School in Njoro, Nakuru County.
Ruto was accompanied by Deputy President – elect Rigathi Gachagua and Nakuru County governor Susan Kihika among other United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders.
In his speech Ruto thanked Kenyans for maintaining peace during the August 9, general elections.
“We asked God for a peaceful election which He gave us, and we have come to thank God for the elections that went on in a smooth and peaceful manner. We asked God for us to be chosen as your leaders here in Nakuru and most areas in Kenya, and we have seen that answered as we have governors, senators, elected members of parliament, women representatives and members of county assembly,” Ruto said.
Ruto further said the main purpose of the thanksgiving function was to thank God for the favour bestowed on them and also Kenyans for voting them in as their leaders.
‘’We have come here today to thank God and also the people of Nakuru County. This is the third Sunday since the general elections, and it is the first service in Rift Valley and a lot of people wanted to know what would happen here in Rift Valley because there were a lot of ‘false prophets,” he added.
He urged Kenyans to respect the rule of law while giving the surety that he will serve them irrespective of who voted him or who did not if the Supreme court upholds his win which has since been disputed by his long-time political nemesis Raila Odinga.
Ruto however said he will respect the Supreme Court verdict which is set to be announced tomorrow by the seven judge bench which sits at the apex court.
