Local football side AFC Leopards popularly known as Ingwe will be buoyant ahead of the new season after head coach Patrick Aussems returned to the country.
Aussems assured Ingwe’s doting fans that Ingwe will bounce back to their true colours ahead of the new Football Kenya Federation (FKF) league.
“Nairobi, I am coming, I can’t wait to be on the field, to work with my players, and to see you, INGWE fans, supporting us,” Aussemes posted on his social media platforms.
Aussemes post was met with positivity with Ingwe fans welcoming the move to jet back to the country after his future remained unclear over unpaid dues.
Ingwe is expected to continue with its pre-season program in place to enable the 12-time league champions to return to camp for training ahead of the FKF Premier League 2022-2023 season.
Leopards finished fifth last season and will be aiming to improve on this performance.
The return of Ausemmes comes in the wake of the Sports Disputes Tribunal rendering the 2021/2022 league campaign null and void.
This is after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Transition Committee was found to have been unconstitutional in conducting its mandate.
Prior to the decision by the Sports Tribunal several local clubs had filed a petition: they include Migori Youth, Gusii FC, Zoo FC, Kisumu AS, and Francis Ngira Vs FKF Transition Committee.
This means no team will be relegated, promoted, or declared the winner.
The latest development means that Tusker FC who successfully defended the league title will be stripped of their 13th title.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Transition Committee has already confirmed that the Kenya Premier League (KPL) season will commence on August 27, 2022.
This comes just two months after last season’s campaign that saw Tusker Football Club (FC) crowned the champions.
On the other hand, the Kenya Women Premier League will kick off on September 3, 2022, as titleholders Vihiga Queens embark on their quest to defend their title while at the same time showcase their prowess in the lady’s competition.
Vihiga Queens expect equal challengers Ulinzi Starlets to mount up a challenge in their pursuit for a podium finish.
