Former Kenyan international and Kabras Sugar back rower Lawrence Buyachi was unveiled as the new Kisumu Rugby Football Club head coach.
Ahead of the new season, Buyachi main task will be to guide Kisumu RFC back to Kenya Cup having been relegated in the 2020 season.
Buyachi was selected among a field of three candidates which included former coach Ugandan Brian Makalama and Alex Agalo.
“After a solid two decades of years of playing Rugby (age-grade, high school, club, province, and National Squads) it’s time to officially call it quits and focus on the next assignment in my sporting life. It’s been a wonderful & remarkable career with very many highs and few low moments,” Buyachi said.
Buyachi took the opportunity to thank his former clubs for giving him an opportunity to play rugby and grow career-wise.
“A big thank you to my parent club Nakuru RFC, forever indebted. Impala RFC, SC Pirates, Kabras Sugar RFC, Stanbic Pirates Uganda, Chipu, Simba, and Shujaa thanks for the great memories & lifelong friends. Thank you for the opportunities. A special shout out to all my Coaches, the club & KRU officials, match officials, teammates, opponents, media personnel, fans and supporters, and sponsors whom our paths crossed, it was a pleasure,” Buyachi added.
Buyachi’s main task will be to guide Kisumu RFC back to Kenya Cup having been relegated in the 2020 season.
Buyachi is also a strength and conditioning specialist and his qualifications include World Rugby Level Two 15’s coach, and he is currently doing Level Two 7’s coach.
The burly Buyachi will be remembered for his great runs as a back-rower while playing for Uganda’s Pirates, Impala, Nakuru RFC, and Kabras RFC.
He has had coaching stints with South Coast Pirates, Kabarak RFC, Kabras Academy, and Eldoret RFC as a guest coach.
Buyachi will be assisted by Dick Osano while Caleb Kiprotich remains the team manager.
