Former Nakuru governor Lee Kinyajui has bid goodbye to Nakuru residents after the swearing in of his political competitor Susan Kihika.
His sentiments come after he skipped the swearing-in ceremony of his successor Susan Kihika on Thursday, August 25, 2022.
In his speech Kinyanjui said he was grateful for the opportunity he had been given to serve the people of Nakuru.
“It is so in life that the beginning of one thing marks the end of another. It has been a great privilege serving the people of Nakuru as their Governor, as we turn another leaf, we wish the people of Nakuru the very best.”
According to Kinyanjui nothing gives him pleasure than seeing Nakuru County prosper to greater heights.
“Nothing gives me greater pleasure than a better Nakuru. We look forward to it,” he said in a statement.
Kinyanjui took the opportunity to thank his staff and the County Assembly who worked with him for five years.
“I thank all the people who walked the journey with me. From staff, and County Assembly to external partners, your contribution is highly appreciated. We celebrate your patriotism and as it is, we must all continue building the nation in our respective portfolios. We owe it to the next generation,” he stated.
The concession speech by Kinyanjui comes after the former county boss said he would challenge Kihika’s win in court claiming there were massive irregularities during election day.
Kihika, who vied on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket, garnered 440,707 votes against Kinyanjui’s 225,623.
Declaring her the winner, Nakuru county Returning Officer, stated that Kihika beat Kinyanjui in all the 11 constituencies of the expansive and vote-rich county.
Prior to the announcement of the final results, Kihika had exuded confidence that she would emerge victorious, promising to fulfil the will of the people as she promised during the campaigns.
