The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has vowed to support the positive steps taken by the Government of Ethiopia toward humanitarian access and the peaceful resolution of the conflict in northern Ethiopia.
This follows a heightened conflict in the northern part of the country.
On July 6, 2022, Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Birtukan Ayano and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Regional Director for East and Horn of Africa, Mohammed Abdiker met to discuss collaboration on matters related to migration management.
“The government of Ethiopia gives priority to repatriating citizens in dire situations abroad and minimising the vicious cycles of irregular migration,” Birtukan said.
In a communiqué issued following its extraordinary Assembly of the Heads of State and Government held on 05 July 2022 in Nairobi.
IGAD reaffirmed commitment to ensuring that efforts to ensuring peace and tranquility in the region.
