Former Kesses constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Mishra Swarup Kiprop has refuted claims that he has withdrawn scholarships for 300 students following his loss in the just concluded General Elections.
This comes after the former legislator hit the headlines on social media platforms for the better part of the week, with a section of Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) alleging he had withdrawn support.
However, in a statement issued on Friday evening, Kiprop said the scholarship “program is still on course and by the Great Grace of God we shall continue absorbing and supporting more students.”
“For the past one week, the social media has been awash with FAKE NEWS that I have withdrawn scholarship for 300 Students from Kesses Constituency, I urge you all to disregard the rumors, FAKE NEWS and sophisticated disinformation campaigns being peddled across-board. The program is still on course and by the Great Grace of God we shall continue absorbing and supporting more students,” Mishra said in a statement.
Mishra, who was vying on an independent ticket, lost to UDA candidate and Uasin Gishu County official, Julius Ruto.
Soon after the results were announced an online rumour mill started spinning around the withdrawal of scholarships and terminating free driving lessons offered to Kesses youth as well as a programme that gave out dairy cows to needy families.
“I take this opportunity to thank The Great People of Kesses for the opportunity, trust and endearing love they accorded me all along,” he added.
