Deputy President William Ruto has criticised two local FM stations, Inooro and Kameme, which broadcast in the Kikuyu language, accusing them of being partisan and undermining his efforts to win the country’s top office by inciting audience to violence before elections.
The DP claims the stations are being used to disseminate rumours and propaganda and asking for their immediate stoppage.
“This plan is being propagated by certain media houses – Kameme and Inooro. They are running narratives around violence and conflict and they should answer to what they are doing,” said Ruto.
DP Ruto denounced and requested that President Uhuru directs Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and his Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho to stop engaging in unlawful acts such as meeting with chiefs and buying national identification cards from voters.
Even though he was playing an integral part of the Jubilee Campaigns Secretariat, DP denied working with chiefs during the 2017 general election campaigns to alter voters’ minds and freedom of their right to vote for a candidate of their choice.
Ruto castigated the opinion polls conducted by poll firms, alleging that they favoured Raila, his bitter rival.
“Our competitors have realised that they have lost this election and as a result they have sponsored all manner of opinion polls…maybe 10 opinion polls in the last two weeks,” said the DP.
In order for citizens and voters to exercise their rights to participate in democracy as guaranteed by Chapter 4 of the Kenyan Constitution’s bill of rights, this important document is crucial in the next elections.
Before, during, and after the elections, Ruto urged for peaceful cohabitation and serenity, pledging that “two wrongs don’t make it a right”.
He guaranteed them of security of their work as stipulated by the constitution and asked all public employees and his supporters to resist any form of intimidation by the government and Azimio-One Kenya Alliance proponents.
However, Ruto expressed faith in the IEBC staff and assured them of co-operation to ensure credible elections.
It was established that the courts ruled in favour of Kenya Kwanza brigade, ordering them to stage their last rally on Saturday at the Nyayo Stadium as scheduled.
The meeting will take place parallel to Azimio-One Kenya Alliance which will be at Kasarani International Sports Complex to mark end of campaigns.
