A Form Two student who was on the verge of undergoing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Naira Sarisa, Narok County on Wednesday was rescued by detectives from the Child Protection Unit.
According to DCI, the young girl is a student at a Nakuru school and was compelled by the situation to contact her principal after learning that her parents intended to force her to undergo the procedure.
The school’s Head Girl immediately sprang into action and notified the relevant authorities about the situation, prompting an investigation.
“Through a phone call, the girl alerted her school head girl who was at home with her parents in Thindigua, Kiambu County about the evil plan hatched by her parents. The Head Girl immediately called our detectives, and a team was dispatched to Narok, to the girl’s rescue,” DCI said.
The juvenile has since been transported to a secure safe house, where she will stay until further notice.
Meanwhile, her parents have been apprehended and are being held in police custody to assist with investigations.
