Former CIC Insurance Group Chief Executive Tom Gitogo has been appointed by Britam Holdings Plc as the new Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
He will be taking over the reins from acting Managing Director Charles Njuguna had been serving in an acting capacity since January 2022.
The appointment will be effective from September 1, 2022.
Njuguna had been temporarily holding the position as the company’s MD following the departure of Tavaziva Madzinga who exited the company in November last year.
Gitogo’s appointment awaits the approval of the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA).
His task will be leading Britam’s five-year strategy which involves optimizing costs to boost the company’s profits and improve customer experiences through technology.
Gitogo has over 20 years of experience in the insurance business having served in various administrative roles.
Concerning his appointment, Britam PLC’s board chairman Kuria Muchiru stated his confidence in Gitogo’s ability to lead the company successfully.
“We are excited to have Tom join as the Group Managing Director and CEO and are convinced that he is the right person to drive our new customer-centric transformational strategy to achieve our financial performance,” said Muchiru.
Gitogo has also served as the Chief Executive Officer for Pan Africa Life (now Sanlam Insurance).
He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Strategic Management) from Moi University and a Science Bachelors (Civil Engineering) from the University of Nairobi.
