Homeboyz RFC is the new Dala sevens champions after edging out Menengai Oilers 19-14 in a mouth-watering fixture staged at the lake city side of Kisumu.
The Nairobi-based rugby club now becomes the fourth different club to win a leg of the National Rugby Seven’s circuit after Mwamba RFC, Strathmore Leos, and KCB RFC respectively.
Amon Wamalwa handed Homeboyz the lead with Mike Nyakundi converting to take a 7-0 lead.
Oilers responded through Amos Onyinkwa with Mark Kwemoi converting for a 7-7 score before Leonard Mugaisi scored at the break to give Homeboyz a 12-7 lead at the break.
Collins Shikoli then landed a third try for the victors before Oilers struck late, Beldad Ogeta’s converted effort was too little too late for the Gibson Weru coach side.
KCB RFC is currently leading the National Sevens circuit that stands at 58 points.
Strathmore Leos are sitting second on 53 points.
Dala Sevens tournament is organized by the host club Kisumu RFC.
The National Sevens series heads to Nakuru next weekend for the Prinsloo Sevens tournament.
The Kisumu round was the 5th leg of the series that has already been held in Nairobi, Kakamega, and Mombasa.
