Agano Party presidential candidate Mwaure Waihiga and his running mate Ruth Mucheru have resorted to public political fundraisers from Kenyans to enable them to conduct campaigns.
Speaking during the launch of their manifesto in Nairobi today, Mucheru called on Kenyans to adopt and support their bid.
“As we launch our manifesto today, we are not only asking for your vote but also financing. This USSD code will allow Kenyans to support us financially *846*777#,” Mucheru said.
Mwaure said they did not launch their manifesto at Kasarani, KICC, or Bomas because of a lack of funds.
“We are at a small venue because that is what we could afford. We are not State-sponsored or funded by taxpayers’ money or interest groups with ill intentions,” he noted.
Mwaure proposed cutting PAYE by 50 per cent and stated that his government will stop the loss of Sh5 billion everyday due to theft in various government ministries and organizations.
“We will waive all tax penalties accruing as of the states we are sworn in, our candidature and presidency will start writing to the nations where this money is held after this launch this week,” he said.
Agano’s manifesto, titled “Badilisha,” which stands for “Change,” calls for beginning again from scratch.
Mwaure has pledged to boost revenue allocation to counties to 40 per cent and earmark 10 per cent of the 40 per cent to go straight to the Village councils should win the election in August.
“We shall insist on at least fifty shillings million be sent directly to the village council unit and a decision on its use be made there,” he said.
Mwaure is the fourth presidential contender to officially announce, following Deputy President William Ruto of Kenya Kwanza, Raila Odinga of Azimio One Kenya, George Wajackoyah of the Roots Party, and Kenya Kwanza’s Kenya Kwanza.
