Presidential candidate George Wajackoya’s Roots party has today appointed controversial Omar Lali as its coordinator of Beach Boys Association countrywide.
This comes after Wajackoya’s running mate Justina Wambui took to her social media handles to make the announcement that took many by a surprise.
“Beach boys spur up the tourism economy as they are guides offering lengthy tours of the coastline and the marine parks. Others sell African souvenirs such as Khangas, Maasai sandals, and beadwork. Some of these traders display their wares along the sandy stretch,” she said.
According to Wamae, beach boys are often overlooked during the formation of new regimes even though they collectively hold a considerable number of votes that can swing an election in anyone’s favor.
Wamae took the opportunity to praise Lali saying he brings the beach boy’s vote, terming it a strategic partnership.
“Lali brings the beach boys to vote that are many at times ignored in Kenya’s development agenda. Roots party looks forward to this strategic partnership,” Wamae said.
The controversial Lali first hit the headlines back in July 2020 after being accused of orchestrating the death of his girlfriend Tecra Muigai.
Tecra Muigai was the daughter of a business mogul and owner of the Keroche breweries Tabitha Karanja who is currently vying for the Nakuru Senatorial seat.
Muigai reportedly fell to her death in the bathroom of the house they shared on May 3, 2020.
He was arrested and charged with murder after police and the prosecutor, banking on evidence gathered by investigators, said they were satisfied that the death was not accidental.
Lali has since been set free after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji dropped murder charges against him.
