In what appears to be the battle for Western Kenya votes the two main frontrunners have been pitching tents in the region to woo voters ahead of the August 9 poll.
The Deputy President’s (DP) Kenya Kwanza team was at Kakamega, while addressing congregants, said that he was grateful to have the support of Kenyans across the country.
He lashed out at those seeking to block his bid to be the fifth president of the Republic of Kenya saying they will be in for a rude shock.
“I have already been accepted in the whole country. Those who are trying to oppose me will not succeed,” he said.
“The clergy continue praying for us so that the will of God can be done as we go to the elections on August 9.”
Ruto further threw jabs at Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga saying the people’s will shall prevail despite the support Raila enjoys from the “deep state.”
“Raila has been supported by the deep state but we trust in God. I want to assure Kenyans that God will take us to our destination,” he said.
“God will give us the ability to lift Kenya from one level to another. It’s not by power nor might but by the spirit of God. I ask you to support us so that we can move together.”
Other leaders present led by Kenya Kwanza Alliance governor candidate Senator Cleophas Malala, assured the DP that they would deliver their part of the agreed 70 per cent. Malala reminded the DP that he should ensure that he honors the agreement by giving 30 per cent of his government to the region.
“As the people of the Western region, we are able to give more than 70 percent of the votes instead we shall deliver 90 per cent,” Malala said at the church service that the DP also attended.
“As long as you do not disappoint in honouring your 30 percent to us.” The DP signed an agreement with Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and his ANC counterpart Musalia Mudavadi that entailed the two delivering 70 percent of Western Kenya votes for a 30 per cent share of government.
Wetangula asked the public not to vote for Raila saying that he had been holding the region captive without offering anything substantial.”2007 2013 2017 we voted for Raila but he looks at us like instruments to play with. This time we hope you will see the benefits from the Kenya kwanza government. Dont put your votes in a wasted basket,” he said.
“In Western when things were right Mumias sugar and Nzoia sugar sustained many lives but it’s no longer that way,” he added.
“We pray that God may remove all the huddles so that DP Ruto can take up the leadership of this country so that things can change for the better.”
