Hopes for the Umoja Summit Party presidential aspirant Walter Mong’are alias Nyambane have been shattered after the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) revoked his clearance certificate issued earlier over his unverified academic credentials.
The commission summoned him today to clarify his credential but failed to show up Monga’re was the first presidential candidate to be cleared by iebc.
Earlier today Safina’s opponent, Jimi Wanjigi suffered a similar fate after he failed to provide degree certificates.
Wanjigi elevated concerns that Mong’are should not have been cleared as he also lacks a degree certificate.
“You cannot apply different rules to different people. And if this is the intention and your direction as a commission then I fear greatly for the coming election,” Wanjigi said.
Wanjigi has failed the clearance threshold by the IEBC of 48,000 and has not provided any eligible degree.
Wanjingi, however, claims he has provided some transcripts and he is set to graduate in December.
According to IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, lacked the required signatures and failed to present copies of supporters’ IDs who sponsored his presidential campaign.
“We have allowed others who have problems with signatures to harmonise, and we can also allow you in the remaining hours to do so, but you must bring a physical copy of your degree certificate before I clear you,” Chebukati said.
