A campaign vehicle belonging to outgoing Borabu Member of Parliament (MP) Ben Momanyi and Nyamira governor aspirant Amos Nyaribo ploughed into people, injuring several.
Witnesses and a prominent supporter of Momanyi noted that the driver of the Toyota Land Cruiser caravan, which resembles a tourist van, lost control of the four-wheeler when the brakes failed, and it drove through a crowd of people in Momanyi’s cause.
As the throng scurried for escape and others cried and shouted that people had been run over by one of his vehicles, a video clip of the accident site showed Momanyi displaying little care.
One of the victims is writhing in pain on the ground, waiting for help that never comes.
“I will address his situation. Please move slowly. Tell Dan to come and look at our brother here, there is no problem,” Momanyi says.
Momanyi, who is perched on his car, subsequently approaches someone who is ministering to one of the injured, speaks briefly with him, and then returns to his politicking.
“That vehicle lost its brakes and rammed into people. A boda boda rider was injured and rushed to Ekerenyo Hospital for treatment,” said a source.
One of Nyaribo’s vehicles also struck a man who was crossing the road near Family Bank in Nyamira town where the injured was taken to Nyamira County Referral Hospital right away.
