The Azimio One Kenya Coalition deputy president selection panel has shortlisted eight candidates out of twenty-one who applied to deputise Raila Odinga.
The vetting panel chaired by former Cabinet minister Noah Wekesa released the list of probable running mates yesterday.
The eight include; Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper Party), Sabina Chege (Jubilee Party), Martha Karua (NARC Kenya), Charity Ngilu (NARC), Peter Kenneth (Jubilee Party), Gideon Moi (KANU), Ali Hassan Joho (ODM) and Stephen Kipkiyeny Torus (National Liberal Party).
“The rest 13 applications were not considered as they had not been submitted by the constituent political parties of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance Coalition,” reads the statement signed by Wekesa.
Some parties had disowned certain names submitted as being fronted by the outfits, forcing the seven-member team to convene a crisis meeting yesterday morning.
It emerged that some of the names were forwarded to the panel without the knowledge of the submitting parties.
The IEBC set Monday, May 16 as the date by which political parties and independent candidates must present the names of their presidential and deputy presidential candidates.
The same date also applies to candidates for the county governor seat and their deputies.
