The Nairobi governor race continues to gain momentum with Azimio One Kenya Coalition proposing a strategy on sharing of top elective seats in the city.
The mega movement is set to unveil a line up tomorrow after an agreement with the affiliate parties within the outfit.
According to sources, State House meeting yesterday cleared the way for former Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe to be named Azimio candidate for the Nairobi governor’s seat.
The Informer has established that the outfit has settled on candidature of Igathe and Timothy Wanyonyi for the Nairobi gubernatorial joint ticket.
However, Wiper Party is also fronting Philip Kaloki as potential deputy governor or for the post of Nairobi County Assembly Speaker.
On the other hand, the team settled on ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna as the preferred Nairobi Senatorial candidate over Maina Kamanda while Beatrice Kwamboka will be supported for the Nairobi County Woman Representative.
If Sifuna becomes the Senator, then the deputy governor position will be given to Wiper party where Kaloki will be the preferred candidate.
Effectively, Agnes Kagure and Richard Ngatia both of Jubilee Party are likely to be prevailed upon to step down.
Speaking during a press briefing, Wanyonyi assured his supporters that he is still in the race and is hopeful he will get the ticket.
“Leadership is a calling and from the beginning, I always say ‘si mimi ni sisi’. I am still on the race.”
Last week, Wanyonyi refuted claims that he had been convinced to step down from the race after a meeting with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He also rubbished claims that he would be elbowed out of any Azimio political permutation because Raila cannot be endorsed for the presidency and at the same time have a candidate for the Nairobi governor seat.
Last month, ODM Party assured aspirants in Nairobi that no nomination tickets have been issued to any city aspirant.
ODM Secretary-Seneral Edwin Sifuna revealed that the plan was to have the party’s Nairobi nomination tickets issued at once to all aspirants.
