A total of 10,000 motorbikes will ensure that chiefs’ mobility in the country during the August 9 Elections is seamless, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I has said.
The motorbike shall be used by the chiefs and the assistant chiefs countrywide.
The government has already bought 5,000 motorbikes for the same purpose.
Justifying the move, Matiang’I said it will ensure that election preparedness is adhered to.
Speaking at a National Delegates Conference of chiefs at Caritas, Nyeri county, the CS assured Kenyans that the government has already trained at least 12,000 chiefs and the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) ahead of the general election.
Matiang’I urged the chief to be firm when dealing with political leaders but ensure that they conduct civic education to ensure that public members are well guided on the ideal leadership qualities required for seeking elective positions.
The security chiefs were assured of the government’s backing against intimidation and harassment, especially politicians and contestants subverting the law.
“There are those who are threatening you that you will be dismissed or disciplined in other ways if you don’t do this or that.
But as long as you are doing the right thing, be rest assured that you’re going nowhere.
We shall protect you from unwarranted intimidation,” Matiang’I said.
They encouraged chiefs to pursue further education, saying the government had restructured the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) to make it possible to rise through the ranks on merit.
