Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Tim Wanyonyi has refuted claims that he is being pressured to quit his bid for city administrator in favour of a Jubilee contender.
The Westlands Member of Parliament today reaffirmed his commitment to run all the way to the ballot box ahead of party nominations next week.
“I’m going for the top seat and will accept nothing less than the Governor’s position.
My supporters and Nairobi residents at large should know that I’m firmly in the race to be Nairobi Governor,” Wanyonyi said.
This comes after allegations that he is in talks to give up his candidacy and run as the running mate for a Jubilee candidate on the Azimio La Umoja platform.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations schedule showed that nominations in Nakuru and Turkana counties will be conducted of April 1; Narok and Kajiado on April 2; Kilifi and Tana River on April 4; Taita Taveta and Kwale April 5; Mombasa on April 6; and Kisii and Nyamira on April 7.
The others include Vihiga and Busia on April 12; Kisumu on April 13; Siaya on April 14; Bungoma and Trans Nzoia on April 15; Migori on April 16; Homa Bay on April 18; Kakamega on April 19; and Nairobi on April 21.
According to sources, the meetings intended to persuade the politician to continue serving in the National Assembly as a legislator.
The city legislator further dismissed suggestions that he will be pushed aside since Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), is running for President, thus Nairobi’s top position should be given to another party
Wanyonyi expressed his hope by stating that he will announce his running companion shortly after consulting with the ODM party leadership on the best candidate.
“I will propose a name and then the party will decide because it will have to be involved. With wisdom, I believe ODM will help me choose the most appropriate running mate,” he added.
