The Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-Kenya) has announced that all uncontested candidates would receive nomination certificates tomorrow.
The unopposed aspirants include Sam Ongeri (Kisii), George Natembeya (Trans Nzoia), Dan Mogoria (Busia), Lugari MP Ayub Savula (Kakamega), Governor Wycliffe Wangamati (Bungoma) and former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende are among the candidates running for the governor’s seat (Vihiga).
The party had previously stated that it had received over 1,000 applications for governors, Senators, MPs, Women Representatives and MCAs.
There are 740 candidates for Members of County Assembly, 370 candidates for Member of Parliament, 23 candidates for Women Representative seats, and 23 candidates for Governors.
Parties that have so far given direct tickets including Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to several aspirants who paid millions of shillings.
The party concluded conducting opinion polls to determine popularity of those seeking its ticket and will use the outcome to issue direct tickets in certain elective seats.
It has further emerged that the party is scouting for popular candidates from other political parties to hand direct tickets in its wider scheme to get more seats in the August 9 General Election.
According to sources within the Orange Party, some aspirants likely to get direct ticket include Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, Kisii governor aspirant Simba Arati (currently Dagoretti North MP) and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who is seeking Nairobi Senate seat. Polls by the outfit shows they are leading against their opponents in the battle for the ticket.
