A police officer attached to the Presidential Escort Unit has committed suicide by shooting himself at the Juja General Service Unit GSU camp.
The deceased is identified as Samuel Ngatia was attached to Deputy President William Ruto’s security team.
Preliminary police findings show that he shot himself once to the head using his official gun.
A police report filed at Hays police post in Juja indicated that the victim was alone in the house within the General Service Unit’s Recce squad camp on Kenyatta Road at the time of the incident.
“He used his pistol and shot himself in the head with preliminary findings showing that the bullet entered on the right side and exited on the left side,” the report said.
A Jericho pistol loaded with 13 bullets and a Trevor sub-machine gun with two magazines loaded with 30 bullets were found in the house.
Police also recovered two spent cartridges and one bullet head.
However, Ngatia is not the only officer attached to DP’s security detail who has allegedly committed suicide.
Two years ago, the late Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei allegedly committed suicide a version homicide detectives contested as murder.
Kenei was a key witness in the fake Sh39 billion arms deal, who died in unclear circumstances.
A police report filed at the Embakasi Police Station showed that detectives are investigating suicide.
Police said it had a gunshot wound but it still remains unclear if he committed suicide or was shot.
According to sources, Kenei received and led Echesa and his company into the DP’s office at Harambee House on the day they were arrested.
A secretary is said to have been surprised and demanded to know how Echesa had gained access to the office.
Detectives believe that Kenei was acting on the instructions of a high-ranking person in the office.
