Deputy President William Ruto will formally be endorsed as the presidential candidate of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on March 15.
This is after UDA’s Secretary-General Veronica Maina announced the party’s National Delegates Conference will be held in Kasarani Indoor Arena on March.
“Pursuant to Article 6.2 (iv), Article 31.1 (i) and Article 31.2 of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Constitution, the UDA National Delegates Convention shall be held on Tuesday, 15th March 2022 at the Kasarani Indoor Arena from 10:00am,” read the notice by Maina.
With the endorsement, the DP will decamp from the Jubilee party to the newly created UDA party for his presidential bid in the August general elections.
Following his affiliation with UDA, he is expected to be shown the door during Jubilee’s NDC on February 25 and 26.
Even as legal experts disagree on the legal ramifications of his resignation from the Jubilee party, on which he was elected.
Some political analysts believe that if Ruto is fired, he will lose his deputy president status, while others argue that the move is unrelated to his elective position.
Other topics to be discussed at the delegates convention include reviewing and approving the party’s policies, as well as evaluating and approving any other Party affairs.
This will include political signing of the newly created Kenya Kwanza Alliance, which joins the Amani National Congress (ANC) and the Ford Kenya party together.
Ruto has formed a formidable alliance with Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya), which he hopes would become the next administration.
The group has been touring various regions of the country together in order to gain fame.
The NDC will come two weeks after Jubilee and ODM will have theirs on February 25 and 26.
The two NDCs will climax with ODM leader Raila Odinga being endorsed for the presidency.
