A group of elders from Kabondo Kasipul in Homa Bay County endorsed businessman-cum politician Jimmy Wanjigi as a Luo elder.
The presidential aspirant was installed as an elder yesterday by traditional leaders who supported his presidential bid at a traditional Luo event.
“Earlier today (Sunday) I had the great honour of being installed as a Luo elder in Kabondo Kasipul, Homabay County. It’s a responsibility I don’t take lightly, on my quest to Liberate Kenya,” Wanjigi said.
Wanjigi, a member of the region’s dominant Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party led by Raila Odinga, claimed the event was a campaign rally for his candidacy rather than an ODM event.
“I did not come here for an ODM function because I am in ODM. This unity tells you how I am personally integrated with the community here and our history, ” explained Wanjigi.
Wanjigi recapped his intention to run for the country’s highest office in August, saying he was well-positioned to liberate the country and take it to the next level.
Simultaneously, he dismissed the former premier’s intention to run in the August elections, claiming that it was not his time.
“Now it is the time to say that I am best placed to take the community into the promised land that was promised by our forefathers. Odinga is the hero of the second liberation and I am the hero of the next period,” Jimmy noted.
Wanjigi stated that he and the ODM leader were friends but disagreed on political ideologies.
“The problem I have with my party leader is because I do not see his path to power. In 2017, when we formed NASA, we had the partnership of Kalonzo Musyoka and the partnership of Musalia Mudavadi and we won the election, you saw the supreme court,” Wanjigi said.
