Embattled businesswoman Mary Wambui Mungai has been charged with possession of a firearm without a valid license.
The director of Purma Holding has been freed on Sh50,000 cash bail after being charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and possessing an unlicensed gun.
Wambui, who spent the night at Muthaiga police station, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Wendy Kagendo.
She was yesterday arrested for allegedly possessing an unregistered firearm.
She was questioned by detectives before being taken to Muthaiga Police Station where she was detained.
Justice Kagendo ruled that the matter be mentioned before court on January 25, 2021 for pre-trial.
The Firearms Licensing Board ordered the businesswoman to surrender a firearm she was illegally in possession of; a CZ 75 semi-automatic pistol, to which she obliged.
She relinquished the pistol to Runda Police Station for forwarding to the Firearms Licensing Board on her behalf.
Wambui was previously arrested alongside her daughter Purity Njoki, and released on a Sh50 million bond and a surety of Sh25 million on December 9, 2021 after pleading not guilty to charges of alleged tax evasion amounting to Sh2.2 billion.
Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Felix Kombo ordered both of them to deposit their passports with the court warning them against travelling out of the country without informing the court.
