All is set for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga’s declaration of his presidential bid at Kasarani Stadium tomorrow during his rallying call Azimio La Umoja event.
Raila, who was accompanied by media mogul S.K. Macharia among other leaders today inspected the ongoing works at the Kasarani Stadium.
Speaking during the inspection, National Assembly Minority Whip, Junet Mohamed said Kasarani Stadium is ready to host tomorrow’s event, calling on Kenyans to turn out in large numbers.
“The Prime Minister came to check on what the committee has done and he is happy with the preparation,” he said.
“I want to tell Kenyans that we are ready for them. Tomorrow is a big day for this country and they should come in large numbers from all over the country.”
The stadium will be opened at 3.00am tomorrow.
The party leadership has made it clear the meeting will not be an ODM affair as had been widely expected.
MPs led by John Mbadi, Maina Kamanda and Richard Onyonka met at Orange House, Nairobi, on Tuesday before touring Kasarani stadium, the venue of the conference expected to host more than 60,000 people.
“We have invited One Kenya Alliance principals and delegations from their parties among other key leaders,” said chief event organiser, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
Raila, whose indications show that he will be on the ballot in next year’s election, has been championing the Azimio la Umoja initiative while listing his 2022 manifesto.
In August, Odinga launched his Azimio la Umoja campaign slogan in Nakuru County which mirrored his call for unity.
He unveiled his strategic plan aimed at uniting the country ahead of the 2022 General election dubbed as ‘Azimio la Umoja’ which he says provides a conducive environment for the realization of the Vision 2030 development plan.
Raila said the objective was to dissect problems facing the country, among them political inclusion, divisive electoral processes, insecurity, corruption and reviving the economy.
Expected at the Azimio event are Governors Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), James Nyoro (Kiambu), Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia), Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua), Kiraitu Murugi and Martin Wambora of Embu.
Governors from Nyanza, Western, Coast, Eastern, Nairobi and North Eastern and some Cabinet Secretaries are also expected to attend the event.
