100 businesses to lose goods as KRA announces auction
The tax collector indicated that the goods will be auctioned in May this year
Over 100 companies whose goods have been lying at the warehouses of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) without being picked risk losing them after the authority issued an auction notice.
KRA warned the owners that they have a month to pick their good s or they be auctioned.
The goods include those that were to be delivered to South Sudan.
They are currently being held in shipping vessels at the KRA custom warehouse keeper at the Nairobi Inland Depot.
They include electronics, industrial machinery, textiles and upholstery materials.
Sugar, kitchenware, cigarettes, meat products, automotive lubricants and biscuits are also among the goods being held by the taxman.
Additionally, the list features aluminum solar mounting systems, electric motor spare parts, and various grocery products.
The tax collector indicated that the goods will be auctioned in May this year.
“Pursuant to the provisions of Section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004, as amended (EACCMA 2004), notice is given that unless the under-mentioned goods are entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Inland Container Depot, Nairobi, within thirty (30) days of this notice, they will be treated as abandoned and will be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of EACCMA 2004,” KRA stated in the gazette notice to business companies.
“The goods will be sold through a public auction on 5 May 2025, 6 May 2025, 7 May 2025, 8 May 2025, and 9 May 2025 via the online portal,” they added.
KRA asked buyers interested to view the goods at the specified locations between April 30 and May 2 during official working hours.
This comes two weeks after the taxman earlier this month announced a public auction of various items, including sofa sets, chairs, car parts, and other goods, which is set to be conducted on Wednesday, this week.
The auction, which will be held online in partnership with Phillips International Auctioneers, aims to dispose of obsolete furniture, office equipment, and other assorted goods stored in various KRA warehouses across the country.
