William Chepkut’s burial to proceed after court gives a go ahead
The burial of former Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut is set to take place today in his Kapsundei home, Uasin Gishu county.
This is after a revelation from the family that a court lawsuit to stop the process was successfully settled out of court.
The former MP has been widely commended for being a modest man who made friends with residents in informal settlements, ate ‘githeri’ with them, and provided CDF scholarships to anyone who applied, regardless of tribe.
The body of the deceased who passed on October 8th after collapsing in his Nairobi residence, was flown to Eldoret International Airport yesterday and then a procession through Eldoret town took him to his home. The march had hundreds of mourners.
At his requiem mass, conducted at AIC in Eldoret, Chepkut was remembered as affable and well-liked, often seen with the locals and mixing with all and sundry.
Margaret Kamar a nominated senator, praised him as he perfect servant leader. An independent candidate who was swept away by the UDA wave on August 9.
According to local Mary Chesut, “This was one leader who didn’t care about his rank. He would dine with anyone and never prized particular attention.”
Chepkut’s funeral was put in jeopardy when his estranged wife Milcah Samoei filed a lawsuit to cancel it, saying she had been left out of the planning.
The deceased was born in 1970, in Fluorspar, Elgeyo Marakwet county.
