Why Gor Mahia’s new tactician will be under pressure on to deliver
The 48-year-old, who has had stints in Libya, Kuwait and Sudan, arrives at a time when the K'Ogalo faithful are not happy with their club following a string of poor results this season

A 17th new foreign Coach has sauntered into Gor Mahia FC doors even as the club seeks to renew its glory as the club to beat with the new man on a provisional six month probation with the club.
Coach Sinisa Mihic, 48, says he is keen to make changes and is under no illusion what is at stake. “I know from before that not so many clubs in Africa have this kind of reputation. Gor Mahia is a unique and beautiful project. I am happy to be here joining the winners. I am proud and grateful for that,” he told the Media at the K’Ogalo offices.
The 48-year-old, who has had stints in Libya, Kuwait and Sudan, arrives at a time when the K’Ogalo faithful are not happy with their club following a string of poor results this season. The defending league champions are currently tucked in third place and six points adrift the leading duo of Kenya Police FC and Tusker FC.
He joins a list of coaches before him who have shone ahead of him like Jonathan McKinstry, Bobby Williamson, Dylan Kerr, Frank Nuttal and Hassan Oktay. Gor Mahia has proven to be a hot place to be especially for coaches with the trio of Englishman Mark Harrison, Portuguese Manuel Vaz Pinto and Brazilian Leonardo Leiva are some of the foreigners who have faced the wrath and forced out the door for failure to deliver against an expectant fan-base.
Club chairman Ambrose Rachier while unveiling the new man at the helm also indicated that Michael Nam and prior stand in Coach Zedekiah Otieno will be the Croatian’s Assistants. The UEFA Pro License holder is expected to steer the ship of K’Ogalo back to the right path with fans having had a torrid time with the 21 times Champions already losing five games in 16 matches played.
With the club eyeing to defend their title, there is also the small matter of transfers with K’Ogalo already looking at several options in the market and beyond. It should be interesting to see who comes in and who will have the support of the new man-in-charge. However, Rachier has sounded a warning already over some misinformation circulating in the media regarding the unsettled Rooney Onyango.
In a separate interview with the media at his office in response to Onyango’s flopped deal to Tanzanian side Singida United, the city lawyer said; “The alleged reports that we have received some amounts of money from Singida Black Stars are not true. We are not aware of such and actually as the Chairman of Gor Mahia FC, I just learnt about such reports from the media, those reports are not true.”
Rachier was reacting to threats by Singida Management that they would sue Gor Mahia for breach of deal after allegedly the Club had received USD 40000 (Ksh 5,168,000) for the roving Kenyan international.
