Water and Irrigation CS nominee taken to task over her temperament, slapping IEBC official
Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary nominee Alice Wahome was at pains to justify her ability to manage her temper as she was taken to task by the vetting committee for slapping an electoral official five years ago.
The National Assembly Committee on Appointments member Caleb Amisi who is also Saboti legislator asked Wahome to explain how she will deal with alleged temper issues in the execution of her duties.
“I have the advantage of working for the last 40 years and I don’t recall any other incident. I have been a politician for 20 years and I have not been involved in any other altercation. I do not think that I am a violent person, I’m able to manage my temper,” Wahome stated.
Wahome was captured roughing up an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official during the 2017 elections.
In defense, the veteran lawyer said the incident was regrettable and has never been involved in any other altercation since then.
Wahome revealed that she has a net worth of Sh218 million and a gross net worth of Sh392million.
“My first position was as a state counsel at the Attorney General’s office, where I worked for nearly two years. After leaving Makhecha & Co, I founded A M Wahome & Co Advocates, she continued.
She said her current source of income is her salary as a Member of Parliament which she received until September and a fuel allowance of Sh100,000 from her law firm and about Sh500,000 from her properties.
“I have held my practice certificate from 1985 to today, and it is still valid, but I am very aware that if approved, I will no longer be able to practice,” she said.
