Wanted: Court issue warrant of arrest against billionaire Pius Ngugi over Sh4.2million debt

The matter is scheduled to come up in court tomorrow for directions.

Police in Nairobi are hunting down for prominent businessman Pius Mbugua Ngugi after a Nakuru Environment and Land Court issued a warrant of arrest against him over a Sh4.2million debt owed to Githogori & Harisson Associates.

Investigations by The Informer Media Group have established Ngugi escaped police dragnet after a contingent of officers attached to Central Police Station in Nairobi camped outside his offices located at Volvo House along Loita Street within the Nairobi Central Business District CBD). They were seeking to enforce the court orders.

According to impeccable sources, at the time, Ngugi was within the premises.

According to documents filed in court, Ngugi is said to owe the law firm Sh3.7million as decretal sum and an accrued interests amounting to Sh475,948 as well as what has been cited as “further cost and court collection fee of Sh5,500 and Sh1,500 respectively.

Police are also expected to cast their net wider including to all Ngugi’s offices and homes both in Nairobi and outside the city.

“The executing officer who executes this warrant is entitles to second- or third-class bus or railway fare or if motor car is used to sh1 per mile or whichever fees for distance travelled in connection with the execution of this warrant plus his and if out of pocket expenses on production or original vouchers,” part of the warrant of arrest orders dated January 29, 2026 reads.

Further, the Central Police Officer Commanding Station (OCS) has since been served with a copy of the warrant of arrest orders and received them yesterday, February 4, 2026.

The matter is scheduled to come up in court tomorrow for directions.

“The matter is scheduled for directions on 5th February 2026, when we are required to update the court on the progress made in executing the court’s orders. Your prompt action is therefore critical,” a copy of correspondence addressed to Central Police Station OCS by Harrison Musyoka, an advocate at Githogori & Harisson Associates dated February 4, 2026 reads in part.

Ngugi is a prominent entrepreneur best known as the founder and key figure behind Kenya Nut Company Ltd, one of the country’s leading processors and exporters of macadamia and cashew nuts.

Beyond nuts, Ngugi’s business interests are diversified. He owns Thika Coffee Mills, a major coffee processing firm, and holds shares in Kenya Alliance Insurance. He is also an investor in Tatu City, a multi-billion-shilling real estate development, and has interests in sweet manufacturing, dairy farming, winery businesses and automobile trading.

Ngugi has occasionally been drawn into public controversy.

In 2014 and 2025, Kenya Nut Company was involved in a significant tax dispute with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) over withholding tax on overseas commissions in which the Court of Appeal ruled the company was obligated to account for the taxes, overturning an earlier decision cancelling the demand.
