Interior PS Raymond Omollo warn politicians against causing violence during public gatherings
Leaders from Nakuru and Siaya counties who had attended a burial got into an argument
Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary Raymond has warned politicians against causing violence while attending public gatherings.
The PS issued the stern warning while speaking at a fundraising event at Sasi Primary School in Ndhiwa Sub-County, Homabay county.
He emphasised that the government will not tolerate political violence, stating that Kenya is a democratic nation where everyone has the right to express themselves freely.
“We will not condone any leadership that entertains violence, so that must stop,” he said.
This comes after the latest scuffle that ensued at the burial of slain activist Richard Otieno in Siaya County.
Leaders from Nakuru and Siaya counties who had attended the burial got into an argument when Usonga Member of County Assembly Sylvester Madialo concluded his speech but failed to hand over the microphone to the members from Nakuru.
The altercation between the two sides escalated, causing a lot of commotion.
The late Otieno was hurriedly buried bringing the funeral ceremony to an abrupt end.
Family, friends and fellow activists have called for proper probe into the killing.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga who were also present at the fundraising reiterated PS Omollo’s statement saying there is need for peaceful leadership.
Governor Wanga said they are hopeful that ODM Party leader Raila Odinga will win in his quest to be the next Africa Union Commission chairperson with election slated for next week.
“We are praying and hoping that come February 15th , Baba will be the next chairperson of the Africa Union Commission,” Wanga said.
They also highlighted the country’s focus on supporting Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, thanking President William Ruto for endorsing his candidacy.
CS Mbadi who is the immediate former ODM Party Chairman said; “We are grateful to the government of Kenya through President William Ruto, for putting forward the name of Raila Amollo Odinga to be the first Kenyan to head African Union Commission as the chairman. It is our hope and prayer that when the elections will be conducted in Ethiopia, Raila will emerge as winner.”
