UDA politician among 12 men arrested in US for soliciting sex with underage girls

A Kenyan politician is among 12 men arrested in the United States for soliciting for sex from underage girls during coordinated human trafficking sting on June 23.
Abdullahi Yussuf Sheikh Nur, who unsuccessfully vied in the last election on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, was arrested after he arranged to pay for sex with an underage female after viewing an online advertisement, but who turned out to be an undercover officer.
The undercover officer told Nur, 46, after he reached out that she was younger, “almost 18” and that the ad “”will be taken down if I say 17.” Nur continued to arrange to meet the undercover officer, and he was arrested at a golf course in Eden Prairie. He had US$250 on him and a cell phone.
He was charged with engaging in prostitution by hiring or agreeing to hire and reasonably believes under 18 but at least 16.
The operation involved support from the 494 Corridor Group — a multi-agency task force focused on addressing trafficking and exploitation along the I-494 corridor in Grand Prairie city— whose core members include the Bloomington, Edina, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Plymouth and Richfield police departments.
The individuals arrested range in age from 24 to 46 and reside in communities throughout the Twin Cities metro area.
“This latest operation is part of the EPPD’s ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking. Since 2016, Eden Prairie detectives have taken part in 38 sting operations across the metro, leading to 401 arrests for trafficking-related offenses. These operations have also allowed investigators to connect with 117 victims and offer access to vital services, including safe housing, treatment programmes, and job and life skills training,” Eden Prairie Police Department in Texas said in a statement.
Already, eight other men have been charged. They are:
