Three siblings among eight killed in volatile Marsabit county
Three children of the same family are among the eight people killed by a suspected bandit attack in Yell Kurkum village in Marsabit county.
The children, a 14-year-old girl and two boys aged 7 together with a 25-year-old man were sleeping in a manyatta when the criminals raided the village and made away with an unknown number of camels and goats.
Marsabit county Police Commander Robinson Mboloi said that four other men from the village were shot dead while pursuing the criminals after the raid.
“Three of the four who pursued the criminals after they stole the animals died on the spot while the other succumbed to gunshot wounds later,” he said.
Sources revealed that the attack could be linked to the killing of a man who was tracing his lost camels near the village a few days ago.
Mboloi said police officers had been deployed to tighten security in the area and a manhunt for the criminals and search for the stolen animals is underway.
“We have not made any arrests or recoveries at the moment but are committed to bringing the culprits to book and recovering the animals,” he said.
Local residents have asked police to hastily arrest the criminals.
