A Mombasa High Court has directed the headteacher of St Augustine Preparatory School and four other staff to be charged with the murder of a pupil who was crushed to death by the school bus.
The headteacher Sara Kesi, bursar Venant Mwaliko, driver Vald Mbadi, his assistant Abdenego Mwendwa and school mechanic Charo Kazungu will plead to the charges on August 21.
They are expected to undergo psychiatrist tests first to ascertain if they are of sound mind before being charged with the offence.
Judge Dora Chepkwony ordered the five to report to the County Commander of
Directorate of Criminal Investigations every Monday until the plea is taken.
“Under article 157 sub-article 6 of the constitution provides that the DPP shall exercise state powers of prosecution and may institute and undertake criminal proceeding against any person…with these provisions it is clear that decision to prefer charges lies with the DPP,” she said.
The suspects were released on a Sh1 million bond each.
