Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka deny eviction claims from his Karen official residence
The Speaker of the Senate Kenneth Lusaka has denied claims that he has been evicted from his official residence in Karen, Nairobi.
Speaking to The Informer, Lusaka termed the assertions as “rumours”.
“A very good afternoon. I also heard a rumour that I had been evicted. I am in my official residence. I have not moved anywhere.” Lusaka said.
Some senators yesterday reached out to the Speaker over assertions that he has been forced out but Lusaka vehemently dismissed the allegations.
Claims were awash that he resorted to rent house just within the posh neighbourhood in close proximity with the Speaker’s official residence.
The former Bungoma governor is allied to the Kenya Kwanza Coalition led by Deputy President William Ruto, a main challenger to the Azimio One Kenya Coalition presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga.
Odinga is enjoying the backing of President Uhuru Kenyatta who fell out with his deputy over claims of insubordination, absconding duties and wrecking the government from within.
However, Ruto has been on record citing his fallout with his boss to opposition leader Raila Odinga.
However, Lusaka has adopted a rather lukewarm approach in supporting the DP.
In 2017, while serving as the Bungoma governor, Lusaka came under fire over the controversial purchase of nine wheelbarrows at an inflated price of Sh109, 000.
However, the High Court later acquitted five suspects convicted by a lower court for alleged failure to comply with procurement procedures, leading to the purchase of nine wheelbarrows.
The Kakamega court ruled that the grounds for conviction of the five was marred by illegality and against the spirit of the Constitution.
The suspects were convicted by Chief Magistrate Bildad Ochieng’ in 2018 for willful failure to comply with procurement and tendering procedures, which saw the wheelbarrows each bought at Sh109,320.
