Schweinsteiger expresses hope for Man U during Champions League trophy tour of Kenya

Retired German International Bastian Schweinsteiger has expressed hope in his former team, Manchester United, playing the 2025/26 Uefa Champions League (UCL) as he maintained positivity of them winning the Europa League following their 3-0 triumph over Athletic Bilbao in the first leg last night.
Speaking during the UEFA Champions League trophy tour in Kenya, courtesy of Heineken, Schweinsteiger expressed optimism that the 14th-placed team in the Premier League winning the Europa League, which will allow them to automatically qualify for the UCL.
“After watching yesterday’s game, I’m optimistic that Manchester United will play the UCL next season because they’ll win Europa this season,” he stated.
The 40-year-old who spent 17 seasons at Bayern Munich felt sorry for the elimination of the German giants in this season’s Champions League, even as the finals shall be played AT THE Allianz Arena in Munich.
He expressed that they’ll work harder next season and be better.
It was while playing for Bayern that Bastian won the UEFA Champions League title, seven Bundesliga titles, the UEFA Super Cup title, and the 2014 World Cup.
The Heineken Champions League trophy tour of Kenya has come thirteen years after the trophy was in the country when it was presented in March of 2012 to the late President Mwai Kibaki at his Harambee House office.
The tour in Kenya is part of the final leg World tour by the Dutch multinational brewing company Heineken and the UEFA Champions League, an annual Club association football competition that is organized by the European Football Associations (UEFA)
The Trophy has been taken to Vietnam, Indonesia, South Africa, and Zambia.
In Kenya, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Vice President and retired Kenyan International, McDonald Mariga, won the UCL while playing for Inter Milan in 2010.
The trophy is expected to be presented to President William Ruto later today at State House by Bastian then later tomorrow, Kenyan football fans will experience it during a public display.
