Ruto’s Cabinet Secretary nominees endorsed by MPs
The report will now be sent to the President by the Speaker of the National Assembly for appointment and swearing in
Members of the National Assembly unanimously voted on Wednesday to approve the appointments of Geoffrey Ruku and Hanna Wendot as Cabinet Secretaries.
Members of the National Assembly have approved the appointment of Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku and Hannah Wendot Cheptumo for the Pubic Service and Gender and Culture Cabinet Secretaries, respectively.
The approval comes after the Assembly today debated a report from the Appointments Committee before voting following the vetting that happened on Monday.
“Taking into consideration the finding of the Committee on Appointments in its fifth report on the vetting of the nominees for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries, laid on the table of the House on yesterday and under the provisions of Article 152(2) of the Constitution and section 3 and 8 of the Public Appointments Act, Cap 7(f), this House approves the appointment of the following persons as Cabinet Secretaries; Hon. Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku to the ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Projects and Hanna Wendot Cheptumo to the Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage,” the Assembly’s report to the President stated.
The report will now be sent to the President by the Speaker of the National Assembly for appointment and swearing in ahead of starting their official duties.
Ruku is set to replace former CS Justin Muturi, who was sacked by President William Ruto following his advancement on calling him (the president) to address abduction cases and extrajudicial killings in the country
During the vetting, Ruku promised to serve the country without fear or favour, should he be approved for the position.
He also vowed to streamline the Public Service sector, especially on the issue of employment.
The Mbeere North legislator also promised to create an enabling environment for employment, as well as in establishment of businesses in the country.
Wendot was nominated to the Cabinet by President Ruto to fill the position of Gender CS, which has not had a substantive holder since the dismissal of the entire Cabinet last year.
She will take over from Aisha Jumwa, who was dismissed.
